Written by Darin Gemmer,
“Who can go to Camp Indianola?” It’s a question I get often when talking to people out in the community. I always say that anyone is welcome and invite them to come out to camp some time.
The truth is, we want to share Camp Indianola with everyone. As we continue to look for new ways to grow our ministry, both to churches and the broader local community, we’re opening our doors and intentionally inviting people to camp. Oh yeah, and it’s free.
It started this summer with our Free Family Fourth event that drew over 60 people to camp for activities, hot dogs, campfire, and fireworks viewing. We’re excited for the great kick-off year that we had with this event and anticipate even more people experiencing camp through this event in coming years.
This fall we’re building on the success of that event and inviting families to come experience other great parts of camp. On October 1st we’re hosting a Free Family Trail Walk, a leisurely stroll through the undeveloped 50 acres of the camp property along the Perimeter Trail. I’ll be leading the walk and stopping a few times for prayer, songs, or reflection.
We already have plans for events in November and December and hope to make this a monthly, year-round program of intentionally inviting our neighbors to experience the great things we all know Camp Indianola has to offer. If you’d like to join us, check out our Facebook page for the events and RSVPs
