As the United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries of the Pacific Northwest Annual Conference, our mission is to be sanctuaries of Christian hospitality, renewal and learning within God’s natural world. Natural sanctuaries that celebrate diversity, inspire love and service, and fulfill our special partnership with local churches in nurturing disciples and spiritual leaders.
Camp Directors and Conference Staff
Camp Indianola Director
Colin Cushman grew up going to Camp Indianola as a camper and loves the Pacific Northwest. Before becoming the Camp Director at Camp Indianola, he served as pastor of several churches across western Washington. He lives at camp with his wife, daughter, and dog.
Lazy F Director
It has been a great run here at Lazy F! This is year 24 in this incredible place, and I look forward to the continued improvements and challenges yet ahead. My wife Heather and I were fortunate to raise our two kids, Chris and Megan, now both adults, at Lazy F. It has been a blessing to see the thousands of campers, guests, and staff who consider Lazy F to be their “home away from home.” God truly has called us to this place!
I am proud to have grown up in Minnesota and still follow all sports teams from Minnesota and still waiting for that elusive Viking Super Bowl victory. After graduating from Oregon State University, I moved around to different college campuses working in student affairs before returning to our summer camp roots by coming to Lazy F in 1996. In my free time I like to bicycle, hike, snowshoe, flood our ice skating rink, and cook.
Brandon and Carole Scheer
Ocean Park Directors
From an early age as a Boy Scout, Brandon experienced a love of outdoor ministry. Carole came at it from a different direction—that is to say—she married into it. It works well as the two of them manage to bring different strengths and qualities to serve Ocean Park.
Brandon grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, camping, playing sports, and mountain biking. He attended school at Concordia, Portland, and graduated with a degree in Christian Education. His hobbies include coaching three sons in a variety of sports and competing in triathlons. He has served in a variety of roles at numerous camps, most recently as Program Director at Camp Lutherwood in Bellingham, Washington.
Carole grew up in northwest Montana, riding horses and exploring the woods. She attended Carroll College in Helena, Montana, and Western Washington University in Bellingham, and has a BA in Psychology and her certificate in Elementary Education. She stays busy as a mom to the Scheers’ three rambunctious boys and enjoys sunshine and hikes!
Kristen “Moonie” Moon
As a kid growing up in Wyoming, I attended Baptist camps. It was there that I found the perfect place to nurture my love of Jesus and nature. I was always somewhat of a “wild child” and camp served as a perfect outlet for me. Camp also provided a strong Christian community to be a part of. Fast forward to my college years when I became a summer staff counselor at Lazy F Camp & Retreat Center in Ellensburg, WA. It was at Lazy F that I first heard the call to ministry. It was through that call that I soon found myself moving to North Idaho to work at Twinlow Camp & Retreat Center as Assistant Director. Five years later I am now blessed to be transitioning into the role of Director.
When I am not working at camp, I spend most of my time in the outdoors either rock climbing, surfing (yes, we surf in North Idaho), or snowboarding. I have always been able to connect to Jesus, myself, and others best when playing outside. Because of that I am excited to be serving as Director of Twinlow Camp!
Camping Board of Stewards
The Camping Board Of Stewards (CBS) is an incorporated agency of the PNW Annual Conference, which owns, shares ownership, leases or rents sites upon which camping and retreat ministries are conducted. The Camping Board of Stewards is responsible for the employment of staff, the acquisition, development, operation and maintenance of these sites and for developing and conducting the camping and retreat ministry programs which, in a variety of additional settings, undergirds, enhances and extends the local congregational ministry. This includes the establishment of standards and policies to be observed in these programs.
